La Trattoria del Monestario

La Trattoria del Monestario has my favorite inner courtyard in Arequipa

This is a great little Italian restaurant. It has a fantastic location and the best outdoor space in the city. The food is very good, though not particularly creative. I wanted something light and ordered the salad, which was excellent though it had a bit too much dressing. My dining companion ordered the prawn spaghetti which he said had great flavor but would have been better with more prawns. Overall, we had a lovely lunch in a very peaceful setting.

Kola Escocesa

Arequipa is so self-contained that many Peruvians joke you need your passport to enter the White City. One example is their own soft drinks. Whereas in most of Peru people drink InkaCola, Arequipa has several of its own drinks, like Kola Escocesa. It was a bit too sweet for me, but refreshing and with a much more palatable flavor than InkaCola.

La Trattoria del Monestario is easy to find on Calle Santa Catalina as it’s part of the monastery. You can check out their website here.
