Prana Vegan Club

Prana was my only terrible meal in Arequipa.

I arrived for lunch at 12:30 but was told that the two things on the daily lunch menu weren’t ready yet. When I finally asked my server what I could have she suggested the burger with mashed potatoes and the avocado salad. I was very disappointed by both.

On the one hand, you get what you pay for. The daily lunch menu was only s/10. However, I also believe that restaurants shouldn’t serve anything that they’re not proud to serve. I can’t imagine that any chef would actually be proud to serve what I ordered for lunch that day.

The avocado salad had a good avocado, just the right ripeness, with nice, though plain, sliced tomato and cucumber. However, the lettuce was brown and wilted. I ate the avocado, tomato and cucumber but was unable to eat the lettuce.

The “burger” turned out to be a veggie patty buried under a layer of ketchup and lines of mayonnaise. I scraped off the ketchup and mayonnaise to try the patty, which was just fine. It was a good veggie patty but nothing else on the plate was good. I was given a fork and knife but would have needed a spoon if I had wanted to eat the “mashed” potatoes. They were far too watery to be eaten with a fork. The rice was fine, generic white rice. I was just so disappointed by the whole plate that I couldn’t eat more than half of the patty.

How to get there

Only a couple blocks from the Plaza De Armas, Prana is on Calle Ugarte 109, just barely on the edge of the city center.
