Entre Ríos

Read about my time in Entre Ríos in my article for World Nomads and in Fodor’s Travel!

I left the third week of my Argentina trip open, knowing that at some point during my first two weeks, somebody would tell me about a place that sounded interesting, that I’d never heard of. That place turned out to be Entre Ríos. Imanol, who worked at the place I stayed in El Chaltén, told me that the town he was from had hot springs and wildlife and interesting local history. During my week in El Chaltén, I asked several Argentines where I should go my third week. With the criteria being accessibility from the capitol, developed tourism and being relatively unknown outside of Argentina, Entre Ríos won every time.

One of the more interesting effects of the pandemic has been on the capybara population. While people (and their dogs) stayed home in 2020, the capybara population boomed. Now they seem to have reached a critical mass that makes them wholly unafraid of people. They tend to bask in the sun on roads and I saw people get out of their cars to shoo them off the road, because they were so unafraid of the cars.
