Sipán Tours
María Isabel Espinal, owner of Sipán Tours (middle), gave me the royal treatment in Chiclayo. Not only were my tours of Pope Leo XIV’s time in Chiclayo and of Sipán amazing, she also introduced me to the mayor of Chiclayo, Janet Cubas (left).
I spent a fantastic two days with Sipán Tours in Chiclayo in August, 2025.
The first day, I got to experience the new tour Caminos del Papa, “Paths of the Pope,” which goes to some of the churches where Pope Leo XIV preached as missionary, priest and then bishop of Chiclayo. I also got to tour the King Kong Real factory and see where Chiclayo’s most monstrous dessert is made. Read about my Pope Tour on this blog.
The second day, I went to Huaca Rajada to see where the Lord of Sipán was excavated, then to the Bruning and Royal Tombs museums in Lambayeque. This was a very full day but absolutely worth every minute. Read about my day of Mochica archeology on my Sipán blog.
