Why go to El Refugio?

The view is not to be missed, the atmosphere is elegant, and brunch is delicious.

Two kinds of avocado toast

El Refugio’s brunch menu has all the usual fare like pancakes and waffles. It also includes avocado toast, sandwiches, poke bowls and fruit from the Peruvian Amazon.

How to get there

The restaurant isn’t the easiest to find. From the Plaza de Armas, go up Calle Triunfo, continue on through the passageway that goes pas the 12 Angle Stone. Keep going up at the end of the passage and take the narrow street Cuesta de San Blas, which leads up to San Blas Plaza. Just over halfway up Cuesta de San Blas, there is a little courtyard on the right, where there is almost always somebody selling hats. Follow the courtyard to the right and there will be what looks like a tunnel, with a small sign for El Refugio under a larger sign for Tocuyeros Boutique Hotel.
