Masamama

Masamama’s breads and pastries are all made with sourdough.

This is a small bakery that unfortunately doesn’t have indoor tables due to the pandemic. They do have two outdoor tables and since Arequipa is a desert, you’ll probably have a sunny day to enjoy their outdoor space. The breads are all hearty and most are made with at least 40% whole grain flours. I tried the brownie, since I’d never heard of making brownies with sourdough. The texture was chewy, just like a brownie should be. The chocolaty flavor was great but it had too much sea salt which made it almost inedible. If it had been big crystals of sea salt on the top with the almonds it would have been easy to pick them off, but they were melted in and impossible to remove.

Salty brownie aside, Masamama makes excellent bread and you should definitely give it a try.
