How to plan event travel in 2027
It’s already time to start planning your 2027 trips!
The Pope is arriving in Peru in a few days and if you don’t already have plane tickets you’ll be shocked at the low availability and high prices. Airlines pay even more attention to holidays and global events than I do – and price their flights accordingly.
If you’re going to a big event in 2027, now is the time to start watching flight and hotel prices. It’s not just the cost you have to look for, it’s availability. Direct flights and flights with more convenient layovers sell out first and hotels near events are booked months ahead of hotels farther away.
What are some top 2027 events?
January 30-31: Australia Open Tennis Finals in Melbourne
February 6: Annular Solar Eclipse best seen in Chile around the island of Chiloé, Argentina between Puerto Valdés and Buenos Aires, coastal Uruguay and the southern coast of Brazil. It’ll also be visible across a large swath of the south Atlantic and the coasts of Ghana, Togo and Benin.
I loved Cajamarca’s carnival celebrations in 2025 and I’m hoping to see Ayacucho’s carnival in 2027.
February 1-9: Carnival celebrations around the world, ending with Mardi Gras on February 9
February 14: Superbowl LXI in Los Angeles, California
March 21-22: Holi celebrations across India and in Hindu communities around the world.
April 2: NCAA Women’s Final Four in Columbus, Ohio
April 3: NCAA Men’s Final Four in Detroit, Michigan
May 24-25: Qoyllurit’i Pilgrimage, Ausangate, Peru
June 24-July 25: Women’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil
August 2: Full Solar Eclipse best seen along a wide path from the Madeira Islands to Gibraltar, all of northern Africa, the Red Sea, Yemen, the Horn of Africa and into the middle of the Indian Ocean.
The first Machu Picchu view marathon was October 8, 2026 but the date for next year hasn’t been announced yet.
September 26: Berlin Marathon
October 16-24: Special Olympics World Summer Games in Santiago, Chile
November 13: Men’s Rugby World Cup Final in Australia
December: I couldn’t find anything that looked particularly interesting. Leave a comment below if you know of a December 2027 event that I should add to this list.
